Encrypted backup and restore in Block Guard
Block Guard now has a much deeper backup flow than a simple list export. You can create encrypted backups, preview exactly what is included, and choose whether call settings, text settings, and message history should be part of the file.
Backup matters when you have spent time tuning rules, building lists, and setting up messaging. The current app is designed to move that setup to a new phone without forcing you to rebuild it from scratch.
What you can include in a backup
- Call protection settings such as blocking rules, lists, and related preferences.
- Text protection settings such as text-blocking rules and messaging-related preferences.
- Message history when you explicitly choose to include it.
How export works
- Backups are encrypted with a password you create.
- The app previews what will be included before the export happens.
- You can use presets such as Recommended or Everything.
- If you include messages, Block Guard warns you that message content is being added to the encrypted file.
How restore works
- The app previews the backup date, version, categories, and message count before restoring.
- You can restore only the categories present in the backup file.
- You can choose a settings-only style restore or restore everything that the backup contains.
- Restore can overwrite the current data in the categories you select, so the review step matters.
